Why You Should Visit St. Michaels Winery

If you are looking for things to do in Maryland, we highly recommend St. Michaels Winery.Nestled in the quaint town of St. Michaels, Maryland, you can find the delightful St. Michaels Winery. No visit to St. Michaels, MD is complete without a visit to the St. Michaels Winery. They truly have something for every taste. It was refreshing to visit the winery, as during this COVID-19 season, almost every one of our events and other plans have been canceled. I was so excited to see that the winery was open and allowing for COVID regulation friendly tastings.
While the interior of the winery was closed to visitors (other than the bathroom), there were tables for seating outdoors, that allowed for socially distant tastings and umbrellas to shield us from the sun. During our visit, we were offered two separate tastings to try – one sweet, the other dry. Since my boyfriend and I have very different tastes in wine, we each tried one. Each wine tasting offered a small, no contact pour of 9 different wines. When we arrived, we placed our order at the window and were able to ask questions. We then were able to seat ourselves at one of the cute exterior seating arrangements available to us.
When our order was ready, they called our name and we were able to pick it up from the order window. Each tasting came on a tray with disposable cups labeled 1-9, and included a paper describing each wine, designated by number. It was a fun way to try the different types of wine offered by the winery. There was a good variety and a little something for everyone.
My favorite wine that I tasted was called Gollywobbler Pink, a blend of Concord and Niagara grapes. It’s definitely on the sweeter side, but still one of the best I tried that day. My other favorite of the day was their wine slushy. The wine slushy that day was made with the St. Michaels White, which is a Vidal Blanc. It was refreshing on the warm summer day and the small town was a beautiful spot to watch the world go by for a bit, and allowed us to escape the traffic on our trip home.
One of the bonuses to visiting the St. Michael’s Winery is the town of St. Michaels itself. St. Michaels is a quiet, small town on the eastern shore of Maryland. One of my favorite things about St. Michaels is how friendly the town is to visitors. The streets are walkable, and there are so many options of things to do in this lovely small town. If you want to continue on your tasting tour in St. Michaels, you will find one of my favorite distilleries right behind the St. Michaels Winery. Lyon Rum is directly behind the winery and has one of the best dark rums that I’ve ever tasted. Or, if beer is more to your liking, Eastern Shore Brewing is right next door. Whether it’s a trip with your girlfriends, time out with your bros, or a date, there’s really no better way to spend a day.
